Jeff Sessions announces 27 leak investigations

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced recently that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is currently investigating 27 leaks of classified information. While Sessions declined to discuss details of the investigations and what those leaks might entail, journalists and newsrooms across the nation are worried that they may be at risk.

Sessions’ announcement follows the Trump administration’s promises to go after those considered leakers. Over the summer, government contractor Reality Winner was arrested for allegedly leaking information to journalists.

The Trump administration’s attacks on leakers and whistleblowers demonstrate the need for journalists to find more secure ways to protect their sources. Digital security is of the essence in order to make sure important, revealing stories get told.
